Greek national team was handed another blow, as its captain, Vassilis Spanoulis, will not be able to participate in the upcoming Olympic Qualification Tournament in Canada due to injury.

Per official Greek Basketball Federation announcement: "Vassilis Spanoulis has not been able to overcome his foot injury and as of today has left the trainings of the men's national team for the pre-Olympic tournament of Canada.

Spanoulis was present at OAKA at the beginning of the afternoon training, in order to thank all the members of the team for their cooperation so far, to express his affliction for not being able to be a member of the effort and especially his belief that in spite of the mishaps, the team has all proper qualities to achieve the ultimate goal."

Reacting to the news of Spanoulis absence, Rick Pitino tweeted: "I have a huge hole in my heart that our captain, Vasillis Spanoulis, will not be leading us to Canada. I had a great two weeks with him. He epitomizes everything you want in a basketball player; passionate, talented, hard working, and flat out special!".
